FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA — An audience of movie buffs and literature junkies packed the Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center in Fairfax, Virginia, on October 13 to hear rock star author/screenwriter Nick Hornby discuss his legendary writing career—including his latest book, Dickens and Prince. The event, affably moderated by Stephen Goodwin, was the headline event of the 2023 Fall For The Book Festival, and was sponsored by the Fairfax Library Foundation.
2023 marks the 25th anniversary of the Fall for the Book, and the festival’s Executive Director Kara Oakleaf used the occasion to present Fairfax Library Foundation Chair Miriam Smolen with a gift recognizing the Foundation’s support as a principal sponsor throughout the years.
Since 1994, the Fairfax Library Foundation has existed solely with the mission to enhance the programs and services of the Fairfax County Public Library, the largest public library system in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Designated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable and educational organization, the Foundation provides supplementary support to the community by providing access to information, technology, innovations, civic engagement and entertainment, and by offering literacy and educational opportunities.
